New Radioplay: Call for Auditions
« on: April 02, 2007, 11:34:22 AM »
Would you like to add your voice to a good old fashioned radioplay?  A science fiction story in audio form?

Then this is your chance.

Quote
Sweet Sorrow by Brent Barrett (editor of The ScapeCast)

Hundreds of years in the future, humanity has discovered a way to travel from one point in the galaxy to another by opening a "tear" in the fabric of space. Humans have been exploring, colonizing, and living in dozens of star systems for over a hundred years.

So far, apart from plant life and lesser animal forms, no intelligent aliens have been encountered. Humanity seems alone in the galaxy. As history has proven time and again, distant colonies tend to build their own identity and feel a need to break from their home nations. Colonies in distant galaxies are no exception.

This feeling is given a big push when a questionable leader is elected to head the United Earth government. As politics and freedom on Earth get worse and that spreads to the outer colonies, factions break away from the Earth-based government and declare independence.

The U.E. President refuses to allow that to happen and wages a sometimes covert and deceptive war against the rebels. Many factions begin to form up behind a military officer who feels that she can no longer serve a leader who has abandoned the concepts of freedom and liberty upon which the government was founded.

That is where our story begins...

If you would like to audition for a role (see below for a list of roles), then please e-mail me (brent -at- bodenmaddox.com) with the role or sort of role you have in mind, and I'll send you a script for your reading.  Remember that this is a radio *play*, so acting (emoting) is required.  If you don't feel that you have any acting ability at all, then it might not be for you.  But if you wanna find out or you think you have some acting skill, then this should be a fun project.

There is absolutely no compensation for any role(s) you might voice in this production, but you will be credited for your work on each episode in which you appear and on the radioplay's web site.  Your participation will be from your own home or recording location of your choice.  All you need is an audio recording capability (such as a computer and microphone) and a nice quiet location.  While the recording of each episode will be on a schedule, you will record on your own (unless you want to make arrangements to read opposite someone else) at a time of day/week when it is convenient for you and send your raw readings to me for editing into the final episode.  Folks with previous podcasting experience are used to this format for recording/submitting their work.

And, finally... If you do sign up for a major role, please keep in mind that if you are accepted, you will have to remain available to record your performances for several months once production begins.  If you don't feel that you will be able to deliver performances on schedule for several months in a row, then it might be best to audition for a minor or background role.

So if all of that hasn't scared you off by now, and you still want to give it a go, here's a list of roles for the story:

Thanks to everyone who's been responding to this casting call.  I've auditioned a number of folks, but there are still some roles available, so please keep 'em coming.  :)  And even if we cast all the major roles, we'll still need voices for background and minor roles, I'm sure.

I am setting up a web site for this radio play at: http://bodenmaddox.com/sweetsorrow, including a forum for discussion of the project.

If all goes well, folks, you can expect the small prologue for Sweet Sorrow available within the month and then episodes released frequently after that.

Stay tuned!
