How do you download (or subscribe) to podcasts?
« on: April 05, 2006, 11:09:13 AM »
Please let us know what software you use (if any) as your podcatcher.

If you're using something that isn't on the list, please let us know!

I've made it so you can change your vote, so if you switch to a new podcatcher, you can reflect that in our poll!

You can also choose any (or all) categories available if you use more than one method.

For example, I'm an iTunes user, but sometimes, I'll right-click on a show (say when I'm at work), or even use the show's streaming player (there's a new program called Pupu Player that streams podcasts right from the host's website!

Thanks for helping us out,
Kurt

I use Bashpodder on my Linux box.

I just set it up in the crontab so it checks my subscriptions at a set interval.  It downloads them into folders organised by date, and keeps a log so it doesn't download anything twice.  Handy!

I listen to podcasts mostly on my laptop, or on my little mp3 player.  Up until about a month ago, I was downloading shows by hand.  I finally got Juice and it's been great - very simple to setup  and use.  I set the scheduler to check for updates daily.   I can set the options whether it downloads all the 'old' episodes or just the most recent episode.

I download manually as I get them in work, and on one of 3 PCs in the house. I could set my PVR to download them automatically and just sftp into it but frankly I can't be a**ed.

Hey!  What happened to the radio thingy in the upper right corner of the site?  It's disappeared from my display; and it's how I've been telling all my [extremely non-techie] friends to listen to our eps.

I think it's been replaced by the shiny new ScapeCast LISTEN NOW icon.
(If you can't see it on the top right side of the Forum pages, or the top right of the main Scapecast.org page, try making your browser window larger and you will see it.)

The image of it is attached here too.

I also download them manually and since I have only dial up *frell* it took me awhile. But I’m proud to say that by now I have all episodes on my computer.  :D

I use the Opera web browser to manage the Podast feeds and then down load the episodes when its convient.  I transfer them to my Iriver player and listen to the episodes when out walking.

I , usually listen to the older episodes via a Windows Media Player. ( the latest version. ) But I was having trouble , since I wanted to go over the older episodes again, and this time found that my QuickTime Player had picked up the episodes. I am a bit shocked, since I don't recall listening with the QuickTime Player. Is there a way I can get back to listening to the older ( that is from April 2006 onward ) episodes with my Windows Media Player ? And then with the more recent ones, I just click onto the " Listen Now " link at the top of the home page.

Sincerely,

Which tool pops up to play audio on your local computer is a setting on your computer -- we don't control that.  If you are downloading the MP3 files to your hard drive and then opening them, I suggest you do the following next time:

Right-click on the MP3 file, select "Open With" and pick the "Choose Program" option.  Now, Windows Media Player should be somewhere in the list that pops up.  Select it and make sure you check the box that says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file."  Then click OK.  It should play in WMP and whenever you double-click or otherwise open an MP3 again it should play in WMP.

An alternative method of doing this (especially if you aren't listening to them from your local hard drive) is to open Windows Media Player itself, go to Tools|Options, then find the "File Types" tab.  Look for "MP3 audio file (mp3)" in the list, check it (make sure it isn't dim gray -- click it until it looks like it is really checked), then click OK.

Thank you, Brent . I appreciate your assistance. I will try to do as you suggest. Thank you , very much.
